I mean, where would we be (at the very least, where would our clothes be) without Holly Golightly? One scene I love is the one wherein she sings "Moon River" and we see beyond her glamorous and cosmopolitan facade.
I listened to this song probably one hundred times this weekend because I was writing a paper about it for my music history class. It got me thinking about rivers and the seeming preoccupation with rivers in music that comes from the south. The internet tells me that Johnny Mercer, who wrote these lyrics, was thinking specifically of a river near his house in Georgia. Here's Johnny Cash in Nashville, singing one of my favorite songs:

I love it. And I love that gentleman's bow tie in the background. And the petticoats! Finally, here's a song that came on my Dolly Parton Pandora station (don't judge!) while I was "completing" my chemistry homework:

Like Cash's song, it's about the Mississippi River acting as a force that keeps two lovers apart (at least, I assume the "Big River" is the Mississippi River). Is that why music from the south seems so preoccupied with rivers? Because of the Mississippi?

Why do you think it is? Any excellent music/literature/art/whatever about rivers that I failed to include?Binghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12861246860788623357noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-817288844676174583.post-45752709120825444922010-09-22T17:03:00.000-07:002010-09-22T17:39:24.123-07:00why so lazy?My plans and expectations for my sophomore year of high school haven't exactly been put into action or met. Not academically, extracurricular-ly (I know it's not a word) and especially not style-ly (also not a word, but who has the time to think of real ones?). Sure, I've worn a few dresses here and there, and my new boots have gotten a tad broken in. But the problem with Seattle (one of many) is the awkward time between summer and fall. In the mornings, it will be 50 degrees and misty, but by 2:00 it's 70 degrees and sunny. So how does one dress for such occasions? Well, the most common way for girls my age is like this:

Something from UW, moccasins/flip-flops/sneakers, and lululemons. Haven't heard of lululemon? Here's a definition:
a popular yoga and exercise brand of clothing. mostly for yoga and dance and running, but also just worn for fashion. extremely comfy and modified fabrics are used, like LUON for wicking properties and staying dry.
And here's a less professional, yet more truthful definition:
Vancouver-based maker of the tightest pants on the face of the planet. Possibly has something to do with yoga. Definitely has something to do with very attractive girls with nice butts. These pants will ruin your concentration. The logo at the back is hypnotic(both from urbandictionary).

The most popular style is the groove pant, which costs, no joke, $98. Seriously. Now, you know my shopping rule: it's gotta be under $30, or it's not going in my cart. So I would never buy a pair of lululemons. But here's the thing: they are extremely comfortable. At least, the Champion
brand ones I bought at Costco are.

I love Costco.Ameliahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14004671303633818423noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-817288844676174583.post-77541808591818855672010-09-19T08:44:00.000-07:002010-09-19T11:19:51.279-07:00SchnurrbartNow, the hipstery internet community can be fickle. Very fickle indeed. Etsy went from felt cupcakes to felt bacon to felt Wayfarers in the blink of an eye. Presently, the mustache is enjoying its fifteen minutes of fame, and I decided to share the limelight-- I only regret that I didn't do it sooner. (obviously doing something at the same time as other hipsters is completely without hipster cred-- you have to do it exactly fifteen minutes beforehand, so that it's on the radar but still a vague beeping red dot). Nowadays, it's hard to find something on the internet that isn't embossed or embroidered with a mustache.
Where did this begin? I'm guessing it had a little something to do with our friend Andy:

He's saying what wheird?
Surprisingly, BYU hopped on the 'stache train with a little slice of modern art:

Now that's all very well and good, but where do the ladies come in? I also think that Archie McPhee, which never gets enough credit, was way ahead of its time on this one.

So where does that leave yours truly? I admit that I was slightly nervous about entering the cutthroat world of hipster kitsch, but despite this I found myself parading around Philly on Saturday with a self-adhesive soup strainer. One strung-out dude stroked it for a while until I started backing away slowly and ran up the escalator, and a fellow with skinny jeans took a sneaky photo of me with his shiny Apple product, which I feel signifies hipster victory, right? I should smoke myself an American Spirit to celebrate.

Just kidding. There are the obvious-- sheets, shower caddy, backpack, and so forth. There was one more thing:
"Mom," I said "I don't think Hanes 6-packs are going to cut it anymore. I'm going to be living with a new roommate, and my undergarments need to make a good impression. I think it's time I started wearing big girl panties."
To be honest with you, I've never found a truly satisfactory pair of underwear. They're all uncomfortable or boring or ugly or too big or too small or cut into my hips or have too much fabric in the back or too much elastic. To be honest with you, I don't quite know how to remedy the situation. I mean, everyone tells me a quality pair of underwear will be waiting for me at Victoria's Secret, but I am just not feeling like I want to pay fourteen dollars for three ounces of fabric, ya dig? Especially three ounces that say ADORABLE!!! or SASSYPANTSMCGEE or LOVE'N'KISSES on the butt.

Cosmo declared the thong dead recently (do you remember that?), but I'm not really that concerned with what that magazine has to say about my underwear. However, thongs do not seem fun. Nor do the "boyshorts" Cosmo is now trying to sell to me-- what if I want my underwear to stay outside of my body? Is that so much to ask?!
The thing that is really remarkable to me is the selection-- there are at least 3000 different kinds of basic cotton underwear, and then there is the incredible realm of foundation garments... it boggles the mind, really. I think it's very interesting that Spanx (is that what they're called? I think they must have assigned an intern to name this product.) are coming into vogue-- didn't we decide not to wear corsets a few years ago? The interesting thing is that they are marketed as a revolutionary new idea-- imagine! Undergarments that make you appear slimmer!
I guess I am mainly just confused. What underwear does a grown-up girl buy?Binghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12861246860788623357noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-817288844676174583.post-19942254333676047322010-07-29T19:07:00.000-07:002010-07-30T00:28:07.502-07:00Some skinny pretty girl who likes to talk about bands Today, I was going to go to their concert. Unfortunately, things didn't work out as planned, but I've got them on the brain. They are a very tricky wardrobe situation, because concerts can be quite taxing but are full of people who demand impressive clothing. And, of course, we can't ignore the possibility of serendipitously meeting the dishiest member of the band and then getting married to him or her. Or whatever. So what's a girl to do?

Here are the necessities for a really packed, impossibly hot and sweaty and moshy type of a concert:

1: Don't accessorize.

That's right, I said it. I once made the mistake of bringing a purse and a faux fur stole to a Modest Mouse concert, and I really wish I hadn't-- it's just an extra thing to carry around. Jewelry is okay, but only if it's very hearty, because you might lose it.

2: Wear tough-girl shoes.

I'm sure you can guess the specific kind I'm thinking of. Unless, of course, you want black and blue toenails and for one of your sandals to join the random shoes littered on the floor after the show.

3: Wear something cool.

Even if it's snowing outside, just think of how you'll feel once you're packed in a tiny subterranean room with 100000 sweaty bodies falling all over you.

4: Leave your hair down.

You know that fantastic post-concert hair, where it gets all wavy and disheveled, like you've been having sex on the beach? (at least, that's what I imagine it's like...) If your hair is up, it will end up all sorts of ridiculous, but leave it down and ready to be influenced, and you can start the next day with a Sharpie X on your hand, rings under your eyes, and a little bit of extra street cred.

5: Look really hip.

I know, I know, this goes against everything else I've said. But don't forget about the potential rock star encounter. *wink*

6: Wear earplugs.

Hearing stuff the next day is cool! Even if you look a little bit lame.

7: Bring an extra brassiere.

Or be willing to sacrifice the one you have on-- you'll want an undergarment to throw onstage, right?
Binghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12861246860788623357noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-817288844676174583.post-6979307945800487612010-07-26T14:36:00.000-07:002010-07-26T15:02:45.872-07:00you make me wanna say OH OH OH OH OH OH OH MY GOSH.Dear Miz Mooz,
Could you get any better? My theory is that the folks in the 1950's had the right idea-- earlier on, ladies got arrested for indecent exposure for bearing their arms and legs on beaches, and the burkaesque swimming dresses of the time don't seem hydrodynamic, per se.

Later on, Twiggy was around, spreading her curveless influence and all was lost.

(Twiggy does the skinny thing well, I don't do it at all.)

What I'm saying, I guess, is that maybe the pinups knew how to do it in the era before 98 lbs. was the ideal weight. But I got up this morning and thought "I'll make a giant post today to kick-start my new blog regimen." So here goes.

The is a dress I got at H&M in a sale a while back. It's a navy-blue, jersey tank dress with a scoopneck. It's simple, comfy, and cute.

(sorry about my face/hair, I decided to take all the pictures this morning so I didn't have to deal with crazy wet hair.)

This first look is something I wore last week to see Eclipse with some of my friends. Despite the fact that it was the first day of July, I live in Seattle and Seattle summers only begin after the Fourth of July. So it was about 56 degrees and cloudy.

dress: H&M
vest: Gap
cardigan: Target
I love that vest. My favorite thing about this look is that it's kind of sporty and yet cute at the same time. I'm forever trying to find a happy medium between the two.
(I also originally wore this with black tights and boots, but it was toooo hot to put those on. It's the seventh of July, so naturally it's 89 degrees today.)
The next look is kind of a spring-y way to wear this dress. I like that it looks like a cute little jumper, in kind of a little-kid way. I always try to make myself look younger because people always confuse me with my college-aged sister. My family had gone for a picnic in the mountains and I was staying home with my little brother (who was sleeping when they left) and working on these painfully boring driver's ed videos (because I WILL have a license before I turn eighteen! I promise!) I was sitting, "watching" these videos and gazing out the window at our lovely and unkempt flower garden. Why is it that flowers are so lovely? And, indeed, why are florals so captivating? I love how versatile they are-- that is, they can be used as a shout-out to so many different cultural movements, and can be delivered with either delicious irony or complete sincerity, all depending on the level on which the accessories juxtapose. Every time they seem like they're outdated, some brilliant mind comes up with something like this, at all is saved.

(Did I mention that I'm obsessed with Doc Martens? To make things better, do you know what they are called? Unicorn Princess Heels! I am totally giggling like a schoolgirl right now. Like a schoolgirl riding a unicorn. Here's the problem: they cost like a hundy. I am actually seriously considering buying them, because... well, because I want them. Very, very much. I might see if my parents take the hint and get me these instead of any other things for my birthday/graduation... but who wants to wait that long? For the phone to ring? Not me.
I've never made such a big purchase on something so frivolous. Also, I feel like this kind of contradicts the post directly previous. I don't know if I could handle that.
Binghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12861246860788623357noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-817288844676174583.post-63432545560268846652010-02-19T12:38:00.001-08:002010-06-10T11:51:43.966-07:00Rock your Docs
I would like to take this opportunity to pay homage to my magical and entirely fabulous Doc Martens. The great Jenni Larsen took this pic at a mysterious location that I may or may not be allowed to talk about. Let me talk to you about their origin story:
One day, my dad brought a pair of big, heavy, masculine boots home from a garage sale, said he got 'em for less than a dollar. To be perfectly honest with you, I was not immediately enamored. They sat in the back of my closet. But then I got old, and I figured out what was up. Here was my revelation: Docs are where. it's. at. Since I started wearing them, they have been nearly addictive-- no matter what, they bring a sense of irony or hardcoreness to an outfit, and I always feel like a total hot feminist in them. Indeed, sometimes I like to pull them on on weekends and go around kicking misogynists in the face.

Just kidding.

I do contemplate that sometimes, though.

(Caitlin Doerflein told me once that pulling them on is my "Signature move" *grins*)

I love stomping through snow and mud, pretending to be tough, and kickin' stuff... gently.

Oh, allow me to address the right shoelace: once upon a time, I had a long hippie skirt with a drawstring. I lent it to a friend in Turkey, but the drawstring came out and the skirt was out of commission for a while. I started wearing said drawstring around my wrist, and decided to try using a shoelace instead. This left the issue of a shoelace for the boot. I took the drawstring from a shirt that certainly didn't need one, and strung her on in. Recently, on an excursion to the previously mentioned mysterious location, I accidentally broke off a portion of my right shoelace and just left it there on the ground. You know, for nostalgia or whatever.

Here's the other thing. If a lady is wearing Doc Martens, there is no doubt that she is an Awesome Lady. It's like a secret sign, like those Jesus fishes. Hot feminist extraordinaire Kanintron Pietraskiewicz, for example, and the beautiful fairy princess Tess Bybee. And, OF COURSE, my dear coblogger Amelia Campbell.
Binghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12861246860788623357noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-817288844676174583.post-63814486162289521212010-02-17T20:51:00.000-08:002010-02-17T21:01:50.473-08:00blah blah blahHas it been a long time?
Why yes, yes it has! About a month. Hooooo boy.
I think we might have to accept the fact that neither of us are good at updating this blog (I'm talking to you, Bing), and that we will never make it in the blog industry. But I'm going to keep updating anyway, whenever it strikes my fancy. Like today.

I've really been feeling the style of the '90s lately. Well, if the character's clothes on Arthur reflect the actual style of the times. Which, when you think about it, is kind of unlikely. Because it is a children's show. An ANIMATED children's show. But anyhow.

The thing about Arthur is that the characters really only have one outfit they wear on every episode. So, rather than saying my favorite person's style, I'm saying my favorite OUTFIT on Arthur is Francine's older sister, Catherine's:

I'm really digging this vest/sweatshirt situation. And also the legwarmers/high tops situation.
ps, it was really hard to get this screen shot. I actually had to watch almost an entire episode of Arthur on YouTube. I know, how awful.

I also like Sue Ellen's style:
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 139px; height: 265px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7RVM4kmSwkgt5aEwHZQUadw52yqEXyv9wyhdnpp7R3uvVnYvZcpgqiX9bk-AYcLj1NsIohMuyqb0E5RXQNbCIxZ6GY2GapOLiQIKYeZMqvmeb6hDhO2-SYetIhuEfRgL0EHaCP_ljfXI/s320/Screen+shot+2010-02-17+at+8.59.01+PM.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5439443669558703634" />
What's with the vests and high tops? I guess it WAS the '90s. But anyway, the whole thing is kind of tomboy-chic, much as I hate using that category. The t-shirt dress, with the vest, and the scrunched socks and sneakers. I aspire to have those curly pigtails, too.

I need to own these things. I also need to be better about posting? Or maybe I should just watch more Arthur. You know, for research.Ameliahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14004671303633818423noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-817288844676174583.post-34790148194412888122010-01-02T20:04:00.000-08:002010-01-02T20:51:04.484-08:00chopinToday I met up with some friends and went to the mall. The mall I speak of is Northgate Mall, which was the first mall ever to be built in the US. It's pretty small and kind of out-dated.

It's also across the street from Target. If I were the sort of person that used emoticons, there would be a :D after that statement. Oh Target, love of my life.
We made stops at Forever 21, the BP section of Nordstrom, and Target, along with some other stores selling perfume and the like. You know how girls are. Despite the fact that we spent FOUR HOURS shopping, I bought nothing. I am currently broke, so I was only window shopping. But I did try on some rather nice things that I wouldn't mind owning. Too bad Christmas is over...
Anyway, so I'll get the negative part of this post out of the way. I have a PROBLEM with Forever 21. Yeah, they have lots of clothes, and some are even cute, but
a)practically everything is made in some impoverished country (that's an issue I'll talk about on some other post someday), and
b)there's just too much STUFF. It's overwhelming. Kind of like H&M, but different. I think it's because it's so bright in F21. You walk inside the door, and you think "eeek! there's so much stuff!" but then slowly you realize that it's not all cute. So while I did try on a few pieces at F21, there was nothing that I really liked.

Moving on to positivity!

At BP I DID find something I liked quite a bit, but...I'm broke. So never mind. Here's a picture from the website:
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 209px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsevGl57HTj-FRm5niq2rnAljS_kSZXdZc21PQwDDkqNAmV6LgdBPvcFcHjDXPNz9gwPy0-P6T04epDt8GUxe8YUn5hQjhXqdEhWkufmcHMfpskGGTmqlIKt_j1xxPKcEv2w2oPaefvWA/s320/_5827814.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5422364926742821970" />
I REALLY REALLY REALLY liked this skirt, because I could totally see myself wearing it with a slouchy white t-shirt and a cardigan, and possibly some boots. Frye boots? Because I saw those too. Sooooooooooo booooooootiful, but they will never be mine, due to the hefty $197.95 price tag of the Engineer 12R that my lucky sister has. SIIIIGH.
(Mimi Chica Chambray Skirt from nordstrom.com)

Anyway, so on to Target, where I was much more successful. I mostly tried on tops, which might seem weird. But it's easier to take off your shirt than to take off your pants, right? Am I right? YEAH.

I finally got to try on the Rodarte for Target dress EVERYONE is blogging about. Okay, exaggeration, but it was in Lucky and maybe Seventeen, I don't remember. But I'm sure people are blogging about it because it's so frickin' CUTE.
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYkX1GRKnH-y6U4lfEASWHGrf7g0QH0gnmzMFLRfMU6lvPB2zI9rUyAQrVBrK5P3DI14fONU2XeInzCR-HZGaggrY6of-lCPpAuaju5_iAopOtF1ahlnIG7kTDZyNUw6hd50EvNRpkOjU/s320/tavi-super-fan.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5422367167165083682" />
LUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY (I knew SOME blogger had talked about it. SO THERE.)
I tried it on in the wrong size though, so it was really saggy and somewhat depressing. They were all sold out of any other sizes and actually most of the collection. I wanted the blue swiss dot dress SO BAD but it was nowhere to be found.
Tearing up. I'm a little verklempt. And really, I tried to post, but I couldn't think of anything interesting until now.

I don't like long sleeves. It's weird, I know, but whenever i wear something with wrist-length sleeves I always have the overwhelming desire to push them up. And so I do--sometimes I even plan my outfit around pushed-up sleeves. To me, scrunched up sleeves look kind of masculine and tough, and when pairing a denim jacket with the sleeves pushed up with, say, a skirt, it makes me feel less DAINTY and more EDGY. Examples:
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgueWzGFT1nkK4ST5mjkZSfJUeTytTKFT3T_92YY48xxeQadC0EX4QzUKF9GApwWoSLbhLQCrSoAsx6JJNHq84OBOsApYjZJDikayisF8Q1VCV3BhjkayuRnrmK3FxKhljFWQK0f-yJfc8/s320/2871824613_8b5a2b1e9b.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5414528533243810722" />
Simple. Temperatures have been hovering between 15 and 30 degrees. To deal, I've been wearing leggings under EVERYTHING. Even tights. However, I've still been pushing up my sleeves on sweatshirts and coats and sweaters and EVERYTHING. I think I should start doing "what I wore" posts, because I'm sure my personal style isn't really coming across here. I'll get around to it. Meanwhile, I have to push up my sleeves (ha ha) and get some homework done.Ameliahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14004671303633818423noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-817288844676174583.post-23226043192875390082009-11-25T00:30:00.000-08:002009-11-25T00:59:09.840-08:00Ich liebe meine LEDERHOSEN!
This is not a love story. It is a story about love.

No, just kidding, it's a love story too. I was just thinking about that movie.

In any case, here is how it goes:

Once upon a time, there was a little girl. And she was me. And I always, ALWAYS wanted a pair of lederhosen very dearly. Well, when I found out that I was going to Germany to be an exchange student for a year, after I was done prancing around and screaming and giving everybody a high five, my amazing pseudo-godfather Brian Kubarycz reminded me: Germany = lederhosen! I will surely find some while I am there! So the whole year, I kept my eyeballs peeled for a pair. Here were my requirements:

1: Cheap

2: Leather, but vintage (otherwise I'd be a bad vegetarian, right?)

3: My size (easier said than done)

4: I think that's all

In any case, despite all my poking around, I didn't find any until February, and ironically, they were not in Germany. They were in perhaps the most wonderful city in the world, which is to say Vienna. I was in the bus on the way to the Hundertwasserhaus (which is amazing) and I saw, in a thrift store window, a most wondrous pair. It was love at first sight. They were adorable and just my size, though they could not promise to flatter, nobody's perfect, you know? In any case, I made a snap judgement and got out at the next stop. To my delight, the Hundertwasserhaus was just a block from the store. I popped in, grabbed the Hosen, paid my twenty euros, and still had time to see the Haus as well.

So, you might be thinking, wtf is with that other guy in the lederhosen?

I meant to mislead you, make you think I was in love with that guy. I'm actually in love with the lederhosen.

In any case, it was Fasching, which is like... Mardi Gras? Karneval? It's the holiday right before Lent where everybody sins a lot because God isn't watching. Also, everybody wears crazy costumes. I wore the Lederhosen and my wonderful tiger ears and went as the "Queen of the Austrian Cats" (don't worry, everyone was too drunk to realize that's not a real thing). Then I saw yet another man in lederhosen!! Gosh, what a surprise! So I went up to him and said, "Wir sind Zwillinge! Machen sie ein Bild mit mir?" (we're twins! will you take a picture with me?) and he said "Jawohl!!" and, in a very unexpected manner, picked me up for the photo. It was a glorious moment. If somebody asked for a photo that described the exchange student experience in Germany, I would for sure show them this one. It's just like that picture.

Binghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12861246860788623357noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-817288844676174583.post-70514593993685327672009-11-18T07:45:00.000-08:002009-11-18T07:47:43.385-08:00Oxfam Hunger Banquet

Hello All!

A few friends and I are hosting an Oxfam Hunger Banquet for our senior service project. It's been since JULY. AND IT'S NOVEMBER.

So now that that is out of the way, I would like to tell you something about Washington (yes, the state): it is RAINY. At least where I live it is. And when it's cold and wet outside, it isn't really any fun to be wearing tights and skirts. Although I usually wear skirts anyway, lately I've been finding myself gravitating towards leggings. The thing is that they're just so versatile; it's really easy to layer stuff with them. They are also really comfortable and CHEAP! The few pairs I own are from Target and the Lulu Lemon outlet, for 6 and 12 dollars, respectively. I wish I had a picture to post, but I'm in a hurry to go get dressed (and I will probably be wearing leggings, actually), so I will just have to let your imagination wander.

ps, expect more regular posts from me.Ameliahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14004671303633818423noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-817288844676174583.post-53281574644576031232009-10-16T15:50:00.000-07:002009-10-16T16:07:55.522-07:00Daisy ChainBreaking news: We kind of are hippies.

And probably my favorite accessory ever is the daisy chain. Let me tell you why:
- Nostalgia
- Handmade (but anyone can make them)
- They wilt, which is sad, but I think teaches how delicate life is-- this was an important lesson for me as a young'un
- So pretty and sweet
- The best things in life are free
- I love feminine things
- They make me feel like a goddess/fairy/wood nymph
- Good entertainment for long hikes
- Very dynamic-- a few buttercups can be thrown in, they can be lengthened and shortened on a whim, etc.
- Fragrant

I could go on for hours like this, but I think this photograph says it all...

And can I say a few words about my hair?
(I am the one in the middle)
You see, I had wanted to shave my head. Don't ask me why, it was just so. I foolishly assumed my parents would be okay with this. Eva (elder sister), a bad influence as usual, was all for it and excitedly cut it all off one night (at my request). We were just calling a friend to get her head-buzzing apparatus when my parents came home and got SUPER MAD. My hair was a little shorter than it was in the picture, and I was left there, literally inches away from my goal. Painfully close.
I am still planning on shaving my head some day.
Moral of the story:
If I had been allowed go the full distance, I would be satisfied by now. But I still have this itch-- just let your children deal with their own hair, parents. They could be doing worse things with their freedom.Binghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12861246860788623357noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-817288844676174583.post-68364813111589089132009-10-13T18:38:00.000-07:002009-10-13T19:30:26.510-07:00A special delivery for Ingrid Asplund! So for my birthday, my parents gave me a gift certificate for daddyos.com-- I absolutely love this place. Check it out if you get the chance.
So I ordered this dress:

It's nice, huh? The only problem is, it doesn't come with the petticoat :(. I find it quite tragic. However, there is always Christmas.
On the subject of this blog not being updated for a really long time,
a. I am sorry
b. I was actually just scared of uploading pictures. Did I do it right?

Now, a friend (Caitlin) is an excellent photographer and decided to do a photoshoot, I think she wanted more stuff for her portfolio... or maybe just thought it would be fun (it was). She called me up and said "Ingrid. I want you to get everything you own that is beautiful and colorful and crazy. Then come to the school, we'll do a photoshoot there."
So I gathered probably a third of the beautiful/colorful/crazy things I own (two largish boxes full-- I have far too many possessions) and we shot some photos. I still need to get those boxes back-- They contain some of my most valued items.
Here is the lovely Mackenzie Jacoby (of No Country for Old Clem), wearing my tutu, goggles, and dress and her jeans and DIY Converse. I will try to find and post a good picture of one of the outfits I was wearing.

Those goggles are the best unexpected accessory ever. I love to wear them as a headband or around my neck-- they are an excellent conversation piece and I imagine they will come in handy someday when a young fellow in an aeroplane comes and swoops me up, or in case I ever need to leap upon a pegasus and go defeat an evil thing. Also useful for swing sets and smoky fires.Binghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12861246860788623357noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-817288844676174583.post-75737198588085190302009-07-27T12:15:00.000-07:002009-07-30T12:22:40.317-07:00magic's in the makeupRather than posting something related to clothes today, because it is much too hot to even think about them, I'm doing a makeup post. Mostly I don't wear a lot of makeup, but I think that makeup is an extension of personal style and is an outlet for creativity. In other words, makeup is an art. I'm not particularly good at applying it myself, but I tried to do kind of a party/special occasion look. Or maybe just an every-day look if you're really, really cool. Which I am not.
Here's the "before" photo:
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEju3D5Wf2DgHJpjHDNigIyasSiAYb5bLs7wg9ojkOFq6ioJrEUTx91KS4KgJyBxnaj_Nt49OPTwUU1HDJveD3sqFXILzAOEkBmuz7rIG4NiGtcGUOPqb9xsRPA3ut-wXORT7MWjfLxSRCg/s320/SN851010.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5363222433050579410" />
Products used: Neutrogena Sunscreen with SPF 55 and Blistex Silk & Shine lip balm. And nothing else. Pretty much what I wear every day. Sometimes if I feel a little crazy, I wear some clear mascara, but generally my eyes are bare. And here is the "after" photo:
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyRkel6p8M_mFvXuQyH62N32WM8uv-d6uSTgmSrmLQAc-LAwqtAX3hbreqz6QvYIvUzmADgLN4Y4UtijZXty9EKckrUWR1qVkFjlBJ8khLf3bAARwMLhsd1chUbwFhak6SkhibdZVKzpc/s320/SN851012.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5363225290596259762" />
Products used: Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner in Glam Rock (silver) and Metal Head (purple), Maybelline The Colossal Volum' Express® Mascara, various Hard Candy products (from the Hard Candy Punk Palette) like lipgloss, eyeshadow, and blush, Sephora Liquid Eyeliner in Aubergine, and Victoria's Secret Beauty Rush lipgloss in Cherry. Or something like that.
I hope that the weather will cool off enough for me to post more about clothes, but right now all I can do is describe what I'm wearing: a purple ribbed racerback tank from Target layered under a white halter-neck sundress with blue flowers and blue stitching, from my sister who got it from Ingrid's sister. Who is also my cousin.
I hope everyone has some way to stay cool. As for me, I'm going down to the basement with a cold Pepsi One and watching the Create network.Ameliahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14004671303633818423noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-817288844676174583.post-55099607873957914302009-07-24T13:22:00.000-07:002009-07-24T13:31:21.132-07:00contrastI love dresses as much as Ingrid does. Heck, I own about thirteen of them. The only thing I wore for the majority of the school year was dresses. But now, during the summer, here's what I'm finding: I might like skirts more. The thing about skirts is that they're just so much more versatile. With dresses, you can layer, but there's only so much you can do. With skirts, you can add tights or leggings, wear them with any combination of shirts and cardigans, you can just wear them with a basic tank top, or you could dress it up and wear heels and a pretty shirt. Plus, dresses always make me feel kind of girly. Not that I have a problem with that, but I like to feel a little bit more tomboyish during the summer, so I can run around and not feel too dressed up.

We all have our own "go-to" outfit, and mine has morphed into something completely different than it was ten months ago. Then, my staple pieces were tights, a dress, and converse. The dress could be anything, but generally it was something flowy with a defined waist. However, as of late, the outfit I reach for when I'm in need of something comfortable yet stylish is a light-weight cardigan (white or black), a solid but bright tank top or t-shirt, and a colorfully patterned skirt. It's pretty but casual, stylish but comfy. I do not disrespect the dress, but I love love LOVE the skirt.Ameliahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14004671303633818423noreply@blogger.com0
